Mystery + Conspiracy + Unnatural

The stories that I get hooked the most has these 3 elements:

• mystery, with some kind of detective story,
• conspiracy, an organization trying to manipulate society, a group of people or someone in particular,
• unnatural, an element of magic or sci-fi, it can be real or just part of the conspiracy.

Examples:

• 20th Century Boy,
• Billy Bat.
