Cold-Call Desensitization: 100 Random Phone Calls a Day

The Story

Early in his career, Sam called approximately 100 random phonebook numbers daily and asked for movie recommendations. The sole purpose: eliminate his fear of rejection.

This was separate from his business outreach. Pure exposure therapy. Talk to strangers, get rejected, repeat until rejection stops hurting.

For business, he developed the “50-email rule”: you’re just 50 emails away from reaching anyone. For Hustle Con speakers, he created custom GIFs by photographing himself spelling out their names, making each cold email impossible to ignore.

His cold email framework: blank subject lines, AIDA structure (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action), pre-engagement stalking (engage a target’s content for days before emailing so your name is familiar), and relentless follow-up. Most replies came by email #3, but he’s gone 30+ attempts.

Lesson for Creators

Most creators avoid outreach because rejection hurts. Sam made rejection meaningless by flooding himself with it. 100 calls a day to strangers isn’t a business strategy. It’s psychological training. Once rejection doesn’t faze you, cold outreach to potential collaborators, sponsors, and partners becomes a simple numbers game, not an emotional ordeal.
