Kitchen X: The Food Tech Startup Before LinkedIn

The Story

Before LinkedIn, Charlie co-founded Kitchen X, a food tech startup. He bootstrapped it with a co-founder, using AI and automation for growth. The venture gave him hands-on experience with hiring challenges, virtual brand operations, and the grind of building something from zero with limited resources.

Kitchen X didn’t become the story people know him for. But the entrepreneurial muscle memory, how to build without a budget, how to use tools to do the work of a bigger team, how to operate with no safety net, carried directly into his creator career. When he later built his LinkedIn presence, newsletter, and agency as a solo operator, he wasn’t learning entrepreneurship for the first time. He was applying it to a new medium.

Lesson for Creators

Failed or quiet ventures teach you more than they cost you. Charlie’s food tech startup didn’t make him famous, but it made him operationally ready for what did. The skills you build in a startup that doesn’t work (resourcefulness, AI fluency, scrappy growth tactics) transfer directly to creator work. Nothing is wasted if you’re paying attention.
